He plunged his roots into a spring of magical, life-giving water and drank deeply. Maokai wandered the isles in search of life, until on a hilly isle covered in soft, rich soil, Maokai sensed boundless magic deep beneath the ground. With its creation, the nature spirit Maokai was born, taking the form of a treant.
Long before the Ruination, a chain of islands that would one day be called the Blessed Isles erupted from deep beneath the ocean. He is also a blood relative to Viego and Kalista.
Vladimir lived in the Blessed Isles before the Ruination. Vayne joined the Sentinels of Light to oppose Viego. Riven joined the Sentinels of Light to oppose Viego. Rengar joined the Sentinels of Light to oppose Viego. Pyke joined the Sentinels of Light to oppose Viego. Pantheon was resurrected to serve Viego. Olaf defended Bilgewater against the Black Mist and joined the Sentinels of Light to oppose Viego. Nautilus defended Bilgewater against the Black Mist. Miss Fortune defended Bilgewater against the Black Mist, but would later aid Viego. Lucian and Senna seek to purify the Shadow Isles and its denizens. LeBlanc tasks Elise with bearing magical artifacts for her from Shadow Isles. Kindred seeks to end the Isles' undead abominations. Irelia joined the Sentinels of Light to oppose Viego. Illaoi defended Bilgewater against the Black Mist. Graves joined the Sentinels of Light to oppose Viego. Gangplank defended Bilgewater against the Black Mist. Diana joined the Sentinels of Light to oppose Viego. 
Akshan is a Sentinel of Light and fought Viego. and worse still, each year the Mist extends its grasp to reap more souls across Runeterra. Those who perish within it are condemned to become part of it for all eternity. Now, Black Mist permanently shrouds the land, tainting and corrupting with its malevolent sorcery. The Shadow Isles were once a beautiful realm, long since shattered by a magical cataclysm. Helia, the capital of the Blessed Isles, was filled with renowned archanologists, astronomers, and scholars of every conceivable discipline, while the common people lived peaceful lives of pastoral simplicity in the surrounding countryside. 
Hidden from outsiders for many centuries, the Blessed Isles enjoyed a golden age dedicated to knowledge, philosophy, and the safeguarding of magical artifacts from across Runeterra.
